Electric vehicle sales continue to soar in Denmark

The share of electric vehicle sales in Denmark increased by 4.9 percentage points in the third quarter (Q3) of 2022 compared to the second quarter (Q2), the Danish Car Importers Association (DBI) said in a press release on Monday.

In Q3, more than every fifth new car sold was an electric car, the association said, adding that rechargeable cars, including electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars, made up 38.6 percent of all new registrations.

“This is an improvement compared to Q2, when 15.8 percent of the new cars sold were electric cars, while rechargeable cars made up 33.7 percent,” it said.

DBI Managing Director Mads Rorvig noted that low taxes are the primary driver for electric car sales in the country.

From 2035, all new cars and vans must comply with EU regulations and be zero-emission vehicles powered by either electricity or hydrogen.
